Woman died after an auto-pedestrian crash in Kearny Mesa; driver detained on suspicion of DUI (San Diego, CA)

A 40-year-old woman lost her life after getting hit by a car Tuesday morning while she was walking across a street in Kearny Mesa. The driver involved was detained on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.

As per the initial information, the fatal auto-pedestrian collision took place at around 8:30 a.m. The early reports showed that a Tesla driver headed west on Othello Avenue went through a red light at the intersection with Convoy Street and hit a dip, causing the car to go airborne.

The Tesla then struck the woman, who was walking south on Convoy. The vehicle came to a rest on a small embankment along a KFC drive-thru on the northeast corner of the intersection. The pedestrian, only identified as a 40-year-old woman, received major injuries and was rushed to a hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. A 39-year-old man, who was driving the Tesla, was arrested at the scene. No other information is available.
