Several people injured after an 8-vehicle pile-up in Sevierville; Stephen McCarter accused of DUI (Sevierville, TN)

On Tuesday, several injuries were reported following a multi-vehicle wreck in Sevierville while officers arrested 58-year-old Stephen McCarter on charges of DUI and reckless endangerment.

The eight-vehicle pile-up took place in the 700 block of the Parkway shortly after 2 p.m. The preliminary investigation indicated that a northbound tractor-trailer was hit by a Kia Spectra that was going in the opposite direction, causing several subsequent collisions. The initial collision caused the tractor-trailer to go into southbound Parkway lanes where it slammed into a Toyota Sienna and a Jeep Liberty.

After that, the tractor-trailer continued into a nearby hotel parking lot where it collided with three unoccupied parked vehicles. After the crash with the tractor-trailer, the Toyota Sienna hit another southbound vehicle before drifting across the northbound lanes. On arrival, medical personnel rushed the driver of the Jeep Liberty to the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville in serious condition.

A passenger in the Jeep also received non-fatal injuries. An occupant in the Kia Spectra was transported to LeConte Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Multiple agencies responded to the scene. 58-year-old Stephen McCarter, of Sevierville, was charged with DUI, six counts of reckless endangerment, vehicular assault, driving on a revoked license, no insurance and failure to yield right of way. Additional charges are pending at this time. No other details are made available.

The crash remains under investigation.
