On early Monday morning, a vehicle hit and seriously injured a pedestrian at Tropicana Avenue.
Officers actively responded to the area of Tropicana Avenue and Koval Lane at around 1:43 a.m. after getting reports of an auto-pedestrian crash. The early reports showed that a 2017 Toyota Sienna was going eastbound on E. Tropicana Avenue near Koval Lane with a green traffic signal. At the same time, a group of pedestrians were crossing north to south on Tropicana Avenue in the crosswalk against the walk signal.
The pedestrians ran into the path of the Toyota as it reached the intersection. On arrival, paramedics transported the victim to UMC Trauma in critical condition. Lanes were shut down for a few hours on Tropicana Avenue between Koval Lane and Kelch Drive as crews worked at the scene. The driver of the Toyota stayed at the scene and did not display any signs of impairment.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
