Authorities identified 37-year-old Ana Hernandez and 58-year-old Matthew Zink as the victims who lost their lives following a bicycle accident Tuesday night in Chatsworth.
The fatal hit-and-run crash took place at around 7:10 p.m. on Plummer Street. According to the investigation reports, the two victims, Ana Hernandez and Matthew Zink, were on their bicycles going west when a 2006 red Toyota Tacoma hit them. The driver, 58-year-old Nelson Rodriguez, drove away from the scene in his Toyota Tacoma and collided with several vehicles and other miscellaneous property.
Rodriguez finally pulled over after he crashed into a wall on Knapp Street and De Soto Avenue. According to the officers, witnesses detained the driver until officials arrived. Hernandez and Zink succumbed to their injuries at the scene. Rodriguez was taken to a local hospital and was later arrested for murder. No other details are made available.
An investigation continues.
