Man killed after being hit by an 18-wheeler in Houston (Houston, TX)

On early Tuesday morning, a man lost his life after getting struck by an 18-wheeler in Houston.

As per the initial information, the fatal auto-pedestrian collision was reported in the 6700 block of the I-610 North Loop westbound, going towards the Eastex Freeway, at about 5:25 a.m. The preliminary investigation indicated that the man was trying to cross the main lanes of the freeway when he got hit by a tractor-trailer, which was heading westbound. The pedestrian suffered major injuries and was declared dead at the scene by the officials.

The driver of the big rig stayed at the scene and cooperated with the officers. He was questioned and released after authorities found out that he was not impaired. All lanes of the freeway were blocked for approximately three hours as crews worked at the scene. The North Loop was back open just before 8:30 a.m. The identity of the deceased will be revealed once the next of kin is notified. No other details are made available.

The incident remains under investigation.
