Man in wheelchair dead after being hit by a vehicle in Slidell (Slidell, LA)

On Friday, a man in a wheelchair lost his life after being struck by an oncoming car in Slidell.

As per the initial information, the fatal incident took place just after midnight on US 11 near Oak Harbor Boulevard in St. Tammany Parish. The early reports revealed that a car was heading north on US 11 when a man was crossing the highway in a wheelchair.

The victim was wearing dark clothing and using a dark-colored wheelchair with no lighting or reflectors. Just then, the car hit the man as he crossed into the northbound lanes. On arrival, emergency crews rushed him to a hospital in critical condition but the victim later succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the involved vehicle was buckled up at the time of the collision and remained unharmed. Impairment is not suspected on the part of the victim or the driver, but toxicology samples were obtained for analysis. No other details are made available.

The incident remains under investigation.
