Man dead after a high speed crash at Seal Beach Blvd. and Westminster Blvd. (Seal Beach, CA)

A man lost his life following a high speed crash Saturday in Seal Beach.

At around 1:23 am, Seal Beach Police Officers were in the area of Seal Beach Boulevard and Westminster Avenue when they noticed a vehicle going at a high rate of speed. The early reports showed that a car was travelling northbound on Seal Beach Boulevard approaching the intersection with Westminster Avenue.

Moments later, officers saw that the driver failed to maintain of the vehicle and plowed into a large tree in the center median. Officers immediately rushed to the scene to render aid to the driver and the Orange County Fire Authority responded. The driver, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, was declared dead at the scene.

At no time were officers in pursuit of this vehicle. Seal Beach Boulevard was blocked in both directions while crews worked at the scene. As of now, it is unconfirmed if alcohol and/or drugs were involved in the accident. No other details are available.

An investigation is ongoing.
