A male pedestrian lost his life after getting struck by a vehicle that left the scene early Tuesday morning in a southwestern Los Angeles County community.
As per the initial information, the fatal hit-and-run crash took place at the intersection of Vermont Avenue and 120th Street around 3 a.m. Members of the LA County Coroner’s office, the medical examiner’s office, and CHP officers were at the scene in West Athens just after 6 a.m.
Responding officials found a wheelchair on the sidewalk near the victim, which they seized. It is possible the victim in the hit-and-run was in the wheelchair when he was hit, but investigators have not yet confirmed that information. Authorities have also not provided a description of the suspect or the hit-and-run vehicle.
The intersection does have a marked crosswalk, but it is not yet unclear whether the victim was in the process of crossing the street when the incident happened. Lanes on Vermont were shut down to give way to the investigation, but they have since reopened. No other information is available.
The incident remains under active review.
