The Lufkin Police Department reported a multi-vehicle accident on Friday. The accident occurred on U.S. 259, south of the FM 1087 intersection in northern Nacogdoches County.
According to the officials, two vehicles were involved in the crash. Both vehicles had left the road for unknown reasons and had crashed into the woods.
An occupant of one of the vehicles was fatally injured and pronounced dead at the scene. He has since been identified as Lance Modisette, a senior baseball player from Lufkin. It is not yet known if others were injured.
The cause of the fatal crash is still being investigated at this time. It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision. There are no other details available at this time.
