Driver swerves off road and crashes into fire hydrant in Northwest Las Vegas (Las Vegas, NV)

An accident in Northwest Las Vegas left a driver in serious condition on Tuesday evening.

Officers were called at 7:41 p.m. to North Buffalo Drive near West Lake Mead Boulevard after a vehicle veered off the road and struck a fire hydrant, according to Metropolitan Police Department Lt. David Gordon. The vehicle came to a stop in the landscaping area of a shopping center and the driver was rushed to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries, Gordon said. Buffalo was expected to be shut down at Lake Mead for several hours.

Metro fatal detectives are looking into the crash.
