The NHP is probing a bizarre road rage incident that killed 2 California men after vehicles hit them on Interstate 80 just west of Reno.
The patrol named the victims on Tuesday as 37-year-old Jaime Ramirez of Woodland and 30-year-old Jarred Johnson of Truckee.
Investigators say both were going west on I-80 when the incident took place around 10 p.m. on Thursday.
Ramirez was driving a white 2015 Mercedes-Benz sedan that struck the back end of Johnson’s black 2004 GMC Sierra pickup, which hit the guardrail near Gold Ranch Road in Verdi.
A physical quarrel followed before Ramirez got into Johnson’s pickup and went eastbound in the westbound travel lanes. The front of the pickup hit Johnson. Following which, officials declared him dead at the scene.
The patrol tells Ramirez then came out of the pickup and tried to carjack several other vehicles before he jumped over the guardrail along the interstate median.
He advanced down the embankment and walked into the number one travel lane of eastbound I-80. At that moment, a silver 2003 Dodge Ram pickup crashed into him. He too died at the scene.
Authorities have not revealed the identity of the third driver. Investigation of this frenzied accident is ongoing.
