Authorities identified 53-year-old Richard Barnwell who died in a horrifying motorcycle crash (Los Angeles, CA)

On Sunday, Authorities named 53-year-old Richard Barnwell who died when his Harley Davidson motorcycle slammed into a concrete barrier on a downtown Los Angeles freeway transition overpass just before midnight. The crash threw the bike rider from the soaring overpass to the street below.

Officials identified the victim as Richard Barnwell, 53, of Los Angeles, as per coroner’s Lt. David Smith. The horrifying crash was reported at around 11:20 p.m. Thursday on the transition from the eastbound Santa Monica (10) Freeway to the northbound Harbor (110) Freeway, CHP said in a statement.

Barnwell rammed his 2019 Harley into a concrete barrier wall and was ejected following which he went off the soaring overpass and landed on Venice Boulevard below where he was declared deceased by a Los Angeles Fire Department paramedic, the CHP added. No other details are available regarding the victim, his bike or what led to the crash.

An investigation is ongoing at this time.
