Authorities identified 21-year-old Luis Fernando Molina-Garcia who died in a fiery, wrong-way crash (El Paso, TX)

On Sunday afternoon, authorities identified 21-year-old Luis Fernando Molina-Garcia as the man who lost his life when his car crashed into a semi-truck head-on earlier in the day along Interstate 10 east at Lomaland.

Police confirmed that 21-year-old Luis Fernando Molina-Garcia succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The investigation reports showed that Molina, who was believed to be intoxicated while driving, slammed his car into the 18-wheeler. Molina’s car had caught on fire due to the collision.

The reports further stated that the driver of the semi-truck noticed the wrong-way car coming at him and attempted to move out of the way, but ended up hitting the car. The truck driver and his passenger remained unharmed in the wreck. Authorities stated that Molina was likely drunk while traveling in the wrong direction; toxicology test results were pending.

The interstate was closed down following the two-vehicle accident that took place before 5 a.m. All traffic was being diverted off I-10 at the Lomaland exit; as of 10 a.m., police said traffic was exiting at Yarbrough, Exit 28B. It is unknown when the interstate will open again to traffic. No other details are available.

An investigation continues.
