An overturned gasoline truck led to the closure of I-49 near Pont des Mouton (Lafayette, LA)

Authorities reported that I-49 was shut down following a rollover crash in Lafayette.

As per the initial information, the two-vehicle wreck took place on Interstate 49 near Pont des Mouton. The early reports showed that an 18-wheeler with a gasoline tank and another vehicle were involved in the collision. It is unknown if anyone suffered injuries as a result of the crash.

The Hazmat team evaluated the damage and estimated that it would take 8 to 10 hours to safely load all of the gasoline to another tanker and clean up the scene. Roadways nearby were blocked for safety purposes. No other details are made available.

An investigation is ongoing.
