A traffic collision involving an ambulance was reported Thursday on Mount Baker Highway.
As per the initial information, emergency crews actively responded to the 1800 block of Mount Baker Highway at around 11:50am today, February 17th, after getting reports of a two-vehicle accident. The ambulance was occupied by only the driver.
The early reports showed that the ambulance was being driven to Bellingham for some maintenance when the driver veered to the side of the road to avoid a head-on collision with an approaching SUV. The SUV still ended up side-swiping the ambulance, causing substantial damage. The Dodge Durango SUV had heavy front end damage as a result of the collision.
Both lanes were closed down and none of the injured would require hospitalization. Traffic was being redirected around the crash site via Noon Road, Everson-Goshen Road and E Kelly Road. Drivers were asked to avoid the area and seek alternate routes. Both lanes were reopened at 1pm. No other details are available.
An investigation is underway.
