On Thursday morning, a fatality was reported following a motor vehicle accident on the Westbank Expressway in Marrero.
As per the initial information, the fatal single-vehicle crash took place at about 4:45 a.m. on the lower level of the Westbank Expressway near Westwood Drive. The early reports showed that a vehicle slammed into a traffic signal pole at that intersection, disconnecting the traffic lights.
Officials shut down two lanes of Westbank Expressway as crews worked at the scene. Traffic is not allowed to turn onto Westwood Drive at this time. No additional information has been provided.
An investigation into the crash is underway.
