A high-speed crash killed 1 person on Chef Menteur Highway (New Orleans, LA)

On Sunday night, one person died following a two-vehicle accident on Chef Menteur Highway.

The fatal car crash took place in the 9000 block of Chef Menteur Highway (at the intersection with Cerise Avenue) at about 10:02 p.m. The preliminary investigation showed that the victim was heading eastbound when he tried to illegally pass a car on the right shoulder that had pulled over to make a right turn onto Cerise. Just then, the speeding driver’s white four-door Sedan crashed into the turning two-door red coupe, causing his car to roll and crash on the roadway.

The impact ejected the driver from his Sedan. The victim suffered major injuries and was declared dead at the scene by the officials. There were no other passengers in his car. An autopsy will be conducted to determine if the driver was impaired at the time of the accident, officials mentioned. The occupants of the coupe that was hit declined treatment from New Orleans EMS.

An investigation is ongoing.
