A 45-year-old mother who was walking with her 7-year-old son near a park in Escondido was struck by a car and killed on Tuesday.
As per the initial information, the woman was hit by at least one car near the intersection of Washington Avenue and Rose Street just after 12:30 p.m. Washington Park is on the southwest corner of the intersection. The investigation reports showed that two vehicles including, a truck and a Sedan, crashed into each other at the intersection, causing the Sedan to drive onto the sidewalk. The Sedan then struck the mother and her child who were walking in the east crosswalk across Washington Avenue, and knocked down a pole.
Good Samaritans performed CPR on the woman until responders arrived. The woman was then rushed to Palomar Medical Center where she was declared deceased. Her 7-year-old son was also transported to Palomar with non-life-threatening injuries, and then shifted to Rady Children’s Hospital.
The reports further added that a witness comforted the boy on the street corner following the incident. It was later revealed that a Nissan Titan, was heading east on Washington when it went through a red light and collided with a Ford Fusion northbound on Rose Street.
An investigation is ongoing.
