Alcohol might have been a factor in an apparent high-speed crash that claimed the life of a 31-year-old man in Pomona on early Sunday morning.

As per the initial information, the fatal car accident took place at around 12:45 a.m. along the westbound 10 Freeway, just east of Towne Avenue. The preliminary investigation showed that a 31-year-old man was driving a 2007 Lexus IS 350 on the No. 1 lane of the westbound 10 Freeway at speeds of over 90 miles per hour when he took an “unsafe turning movement” to the right which caused the driver to lose control of his car.

Then, the vehicle crashed into the right shoulder concrete wall of the freeway, propelling his Lexus to travel in a southwesterly direction and roll onto its passenger side. Debris from the crash went flying and hit the front of a 2003 Honda Odyssey traveling near the crash site on the No. 4 lane of the westbound 10 Freeway.

The driver of the Honda, only identified as a 72-year-old Los Angeles resident, and her two passengers remained unharmed in the accident. The driver of the Lexus succumbed to his injuries. Police believe that alcohol might have played a part in the crash. The incident led to the brief closure of four lanes on the westbound 10 Freeway, from approximately 1 a.m. to 4 a.m. No other details are available.

An investigation is ongoing at this time.
