On early Saturday, 83-year-old Curtis Williams, from New Orleans, lost his life after getting hit by a vehicle driven by a suspected impaired driver on the Westbank Expressway.
The fatal auto-pedestrian crash took place at 3:30 a.m. US 90B near Barataria Boulevard. The preliminary investigation showed that Williams was standing near the back of his stalled 2005 Chrysler Pacifica in the right lane of eastbound US 90B and had his emergency flashers activated.
Just then, a 2014 Nissan Altima driven by Adrian Major hit Williams and his vehicle. Williams suffered serious injuries and died after being rushed to a hospital. Major incurred only minor injuries and was treated at the scene. Officers ascertained that Major was impaired and they detained him.
He was booked into the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center. 36-year-old Adrian Major was arrested on suspicion of vehicular homicide, careless operation of a motor vehicle and driving with a suspended license. No further information was provided.
An investigation is ongoing.
