The New Mexico State Police reported a motor vehicle crash in Deming on Monday morning. The accident happened on Interstate 10 west close to milepost 52 at around 3 a.m.
79-year-old Manuel Garcia Jr. was about 100 yards away from his Nissan pickup, which was parked on the I-10 shoulder, and was walking in the center of the right lane.
The NMSP claimed that the semi-truck ran over him and killed him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A short while later, Garcia’s pickup truck was side-swiped by another semi-truck. Both truck drivers escaped without harm.
The fatal crash is being investigated by the officials. It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the accident. There are no other details available at this time.
