The Texas Department of Public Safety reported a motor vehicle crash on Monday morning. The accident happened on SR 94 close to Apple Springs at around 11:59 a.m. The collision involves only one vehicle.
A 2006 Pontiac G6 was allegedly heading northeast, according to the officials. The driver reportedly failed to maintain a single lane, crossed into the east ditch, overcorrected, and then side-swiped into the north ditch, colliding with a tree.
Tommy Staten, a 77-year-old passenger, was declared dead at the scene after succumbing to injuries sustained in the collision. The driver, Tracy Gentry, 63, of Trinity, was taken to HCA Houston Healthcare in Conroe for medical attention.
Investigators are still looking into the fatal crash. There is currently no other information available.
