On Friday, a 76-year-old woman lost her life following a two-vehicle accident on I-15 in the Mission Valley area.
As per the initial information, the fatal car crash took place at about 2:20 a.m. on the northbound side of Interstate 15, near the transition to Interstate 8. The preliminary investigation indicated that a 27-year-old male driver of an Amazon big rig truck failed to maintain control on the rain-slicked freeway and jack-knifed, closing multiple lanes.
Shortly after, a Honda CR-V smashed into the truck and became wedged underneath the trailer. On arrival, emergency responders rescued and rushed the woman to the hospital. Officials confirmed that the victim, identified as a 76-year-old San Diego woman, succumbed to her injuries after arriving at the hospital. The incident did not lead to any other injuries.
Authorities shut down all northbound Interstate 15 lanes just before Adams Avenue, but all the lanes were back open by 6:10 a.m. It is unclear if alcohol and drugs contributed to the accident, which is pending a toxicology report through the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office. No other details are made available.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
