72-year-old man killed after a bicycle crash in Santa Clara (Santa Clara, CA)

A 72-year-old man, from San Jose, was killed following a two-vehicle accident Thursday in Santa Clara.

As per the initial information, the authorities actively responded to the 1500 Block of Laurelwood Road at 9:25 a.m. in response to a bicycle crash. The preliminary reports showed that a Toyota Prius and a bicycle were involved in the collision. The bicycle rider sustained major injuries and succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The reports also revealed that the bicyclist was going eastbound against oncoming traffic. At that point of time, a 2006 Toyota Prius driver was cautiously driving out of a parking lot onto the roadway when the incident happened.

The rider fell from his bicycle and landed in front of the Toyota following which the car ran down the bicyclist. The Toyota’s driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with the officials. Drugs and distracted driving were not believed to be involved in the accident. No other details are available.

An investigation is ongoing.
