State Police reported a traffic crash in LaPlace on Tuesday evening that injured a 71-year-old man. The man was identified as Earl Eschete of Raceland, who died at the hospital due to his injuries.
Eschete’s passenger also sustained injuries and was taken to the hospital.
Officials arrested Gasper Orduna, 23, of Alvin, Texas, after the crash that occurred on Airline Highway near Jackson Avenue. Orduna was driving a 2019 Ford F-250 pickup truck on Airline Highway.
Eschete was driving a 2000 Ford F-150 on Airline Highway.
According to Stegall, Orduna’s blood alcohol content was over the 008% legal limit. Orduna was charged with vehicular homicide, vehicular negligent injuring, DWI, and reckless operation of the vehicle.
The crash is under investigation.
