70-year-old bicyclist died after a hit-and-run collision in Griffith Park (Los Angeles, CA)

A 70-year-old man who may have been involved in a charity bicycle ride died after being hit by a vehicle Saturday in Griffith Park.

As per the initial information, the fatal hit-and-run accident took place at 3:49 p.m. at 4400 Crystal Springs Drive. The preliminary reports showed that a man in his 70s was riding his bicycle northbound when he was hit by a vehicle that was also northbound.

Due to the impact, the cyclist fell onto the roadway. He suffered blunt force trauma and was declared dead at the scene. The suspect, a man in his 30s, left the vehicle and ran away from the scene. However, he was located and detained by park rangers. The driver was possibly impaired by drugs and/or alcohol at the time of the crash. No other details are available.

The incident remains under review.
