68-year-old George Weeks killed, 4 people hurt after a crash on U.S. 60 in Surprise (Surprise, AZ)

Authorities identified 68-year-old George Weeks as the man who lost his life following a two-vehicle collision that also hurt four others, including three children on Saturday in Surprise.

The fatal car crash took place on U.S. 60 at mile marker 137, near Deer Valley Road. Officers initially got calls of a driver traveling the wrong way just before midnight. Shortly after, a collision involving two vehicles was reported. According to the investigation reports, George Weeks was driving a BMW SUV westbound in the eastbound lanes when his vehicle slammed head-on into a Toyota Sequoia.

The wrong-way driver, George Weeks, was declared dead at the scene by the officials. A man driving the Toyota and his three passengers, all under the age of 15, were hurt as a result of the accident. All the occupants of the Toyota were transported to hospitals for treatment of serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. No other details are made available.

The crash remains under review.
