6-year-old boy dead after a traffic collision in Gilbert (Gilbert, AZ)

A 6-year-old boy lost his life following a traffic collision Thursday afternoon in Gilbert.

As per the initial information, authorities immediately responded to the intersection of Baseline Road and Val Vista Drive at about 2:30 p.m. on reports of a two-vehicle accident. The 6-year-old boy was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arriving.

It is unclear if the crash caused any other injuries. The events that have led up to the accident also remain unknown at this time. The intersection was shut down for several hours while crews worked at the scene. No other details are available.

Gilbert police officers are looking into this accident.
