According to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office, the identity of the victim in a previously reported multi-vehicle collision has been confirmed. The incident in question took place in Otay Mesa and claimed the life of a 58-year-old man. The authorities have now identified the victim as 58-year-old Enrique Valerio Lopez of Tijuana.
Lopez was operating a Honda SUV traveling north on Interstate 805 when a Volkswagen rear-ended the vehicle, causing the Honda to veer off the road. Meanwhile, the Volkswagen collided with the center divider. Emergency medical personnel transported the 21-year-old driver of the Volkswagen to a hospital for treatment of injuries. Lopez lost their life at the scene of the accident.
Preliminary evidence indicates that intoxication may have been a contributing factor in the collision.
