Authorities identified 54-year-old Steven C Stotts, of Valley Head, West Virginia, as the man who lost his life following a wreck early Tuesday morning involving two vehicles towing trailers on Interstate 20 in Gregg County.
As per the initial information, the fatal semi-truck accident took place on Interstate 20. The preliminary reports showed that Steven C Stotts was driving a 2004 Volvo Conventional Tractor, towing a 2007 Featherlite trailer, when his vehicle collided with a small box trailer towed by a 2020 Honda Passport while in the westbound outside lane.
The reports also revealed that Stotts failed to control his speed and hit the towed trailer from behind. Due to the impact, the Honda flipped onto its side into the center median and its towed trailer vaulted over the concrete barrier into the eastbound lane.
The reports further stated that the 2004 Volvo drove into the center median, struck the concrete barrier and caught fire. Its towed trailer turned onto its side in the center median. Stotts was declared dead at the scene by the officials.
The driver of the Volvo, Young Mo Kang, 63, of Montgomery, Alabama, was transported to the Christus Good Shepherd Medical Center – Longview in stable condition. Stotts’ passengers, identified as John P Zaverl, 38, of Mocksville, North Carolina, and Michael Mizzelle, 45, Mooresville, North Carolina, were also shifted to Christus Good Shepherd Medical Center – Longview in stable condition. No other details are available.
The wreck remains under review.
