53-year-old James Elkins dead and 65-year-old Dennis Hill injured after a crash on Tazewell Pike (Knoxville, TN)

Authorities identified 53-year-old James Elkins who was killed and 65-year-old Dennis Hill who suffered injuries following a head-on crash Tuesday night on Tazewell Pike in Corryton.

The fatal two-vehicle accident took place in the 8400 block of the road. The investigation reports showed that Dennis Hill, of Corryton was driving a 2001 Ford F-150 north on the two-lane road at approximately 9:45 p.m.

For unknown reasons, his vehicle drifted off the road, reentered the road and then went into the way of 2013 GMC Sierra, driven by James Elkins, of Washburn. Both vehicles reportedly crashed into each other head-on. Both men were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the collision. Elkins died of his injuries while Hill received unknown injuries. Charges are pending, officers mentioned.

An investigation is ongoing.
