52-year-old man seriously injured after a car rear-ends a street sweeper (San Diego, CA)

A 52-year-old man received serious injuries early Tuesday after a two-vehicle crash in the Allied Gardens neighborhood.

As per the initial information, the rear-end collision was reported at about 5 a.m. at 7300 Mission Gorge Road. The preliminary reports showed that a 34-year-old man was driving westbound on Mission Gorge Road when his vehicle slammed into the street sweeper from behind. The reports also indicated that the driver of the car did not see the street sweeper.

The 52-year-old man driving the street sweeper had a broken sternum, fractured ribs and internal injuries that will require surgery. It is not known if the 34-year-old man had any injuries. Authorities said that alcohol was not involved in the collision. No other details were provided.

The incident remains under active review.
