50-year-old Jason Ashely died and two others injured after a car slammed into an overpass pillar (Sevier County, TN)

50-year-old Jason Ashely, of South Pittsburg, Tennessee, lost his life and two others received injuries after their vehicle rammed into an overpass pillar on Interstate 40 at the parkway exit.

Officers actively responded to the area on westbound I-40 at exit 407 at about 1:15 a.m. Thursday on reports of a traffic collision. On arrival, they found three people pinned inside a Nissan Altima that had struck one of the concrete pillars of the Winfield Dunn Parkway overpass.

Police said that the driver, identified as 50-year-old Jason Ashely of South Pittsburg, Tennessee, was killed as a result of the crash. Two other adults were transported to UT Medical Center via an ambulance. One victim suffered serious injuries while the other incurred minor injuries.

The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under review.
