Louisiana State Police Troop I is investigating a pedestrian crash on the 900 block of Westend Drive in New Iberia on Oct. 8 around 4:30 p.m.
Police report that a 5-year-old girl was struck by a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe traveling southbound as she attempted to cross the street.
LSP said the child was hit in the northbound lane. She was flown to an in-state hospital, where she died later due to her injuries.
A toxicology sample was obtained from the driver, but impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash.
The crash is being investigated. No further details regarding the crash are currently available.
