5-year-old child dead after a traffic collision in St. Landry Parish (Opelousas, LA)

On Sunday afternoon, a 5-year-old child died following a traffic accident near Opelousas.

As per the initial information, the fatal single-vehicle crash took place in a field near Raider and Frilot Cove Road in the Frilot Cove area. The preliminary investigation showed that a woman called 911 at around 4:43 p.m. informing that her husband and 5-year-old children had crashed while traveling in a side-by-side ATV, which could be described as a mix of a four-wheeler and golf cart.

On arrival, first responders rushed the child to a local hospital where they were later declared dead. No other injuries were reported as a result of the accident. No additional details have been provided by the officials.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
