A fatal car accident killed a 45-year-old Steven Thomas on Saturday afternoon near Grand and 83rd avenues at around 4 p.m.
As per authorities, the incident involved two vehicles. Officials updated that a silver sedan was going southeast on Grand Avenue and had a green light while a white sedan was traveling northwest on Grand Avenue approaching 85th Avenue. Police said that the white car failed to yield and attempted to take a left turn onto 85th Avenue and struck the driver’s side of the silver sedan.
Medics transported the driver of the white vehicle, 45-year-old Steven Thomas of Peoria, to the hospital but he succumbed to his injuries. Paramedics rushed the driver of the silver sedan to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Authorities shut down U.S. 60 Grand Avenue in both directions between 83rd and 87th avenues for several hours during investigation. Road restrictions were lifted at around 8:30 p.m. Peoria police said that impairment seemed to have played a factor in the crash.
An investigation is underway.
