According to the California Highway Patrol, a multi-vehicle accident occurred in Martinez on Wednesday. The crash happened on Highway 4 at around 4:15 a.m.
According to the investigators, a Ford Hatchback and two unknown vehicles were involved in the collision. The driver of the Ford traveling westbound lost control of his vehicle hit the center divide and collided with two SUVs.
44-year-old Kellye Van Patten was identified as the driver of the Ford who suffered significant injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the deputies, it is unclear what caused the crash and if drugs or alcohol were a factor involved. Additional information regarding the fatal crash is not available currently.
