The California Highway Patrol reported a motor vehicle crash in the Sierra Nevada foothills. The accident happened on Highway 4, south of Jamestown at around 5:07 p.m.
A GMC Yukon travelling south on the highway entered the roundabout at high speed and made an unsafe turning movement, according to the CHP report. The driver was thrown from the truck after it flipped multiple times and struck a light pole.
He was taken to a hospital in Modesto, where he passed away. He was identified by the CHP as Modesto resident Jesus Rubio, 40.
A Stockton man was struck by a tyre that came off the pickup truck as it flipped, and he was only slightly hurt.
The highway’s two lanes remain shut until 8 p.m. Alcohol or drugs are allegedly a factor in the fatal crash, according to the CHP.
