On early Monday morning, authorities confirmed that 39-year-old man died of injuries he suffered following a traffic accident on the South Side.
The fatal single-vehicle crash took place at about 4 a.m. on Palo Alto Road, not far from South Zarzamora Street. According to the investigation reports, the pickup truck was traveling north on Highway 16 when it struck a slick spot in the road and drifted off the highway.
After that, the truck went down a grassy embankment and landed on its side against some trees. Due to the impact, the male driver was trapped inside the vehicle. On arrival, crews had to cut the vehicle to extricate the man from the vehicle. A female passenger inside the truck remained unharmed in the accident.
The driver was rushed by EMS to an area hospital in critical condition, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The identity of the deceased will be revealed once the next of kin is notified. The woman was later transported to the hospital. Multiple agencies answered the call. No further details were provided.
An investigation is ongoing.
