38-year-old Jason Cavanagh killed after a two-vehicle wreck on Interstate 10 (Cabazon, CA)

Authorities identified 38-year-old Jason Cavanagh, from Newbury Park, as the man who was killed after a traffic collision Tuesday on Interstate 10.

As per the initial information, the crews actively responded to the area, east of the Main Street interchange near the Cabazon dinosaur display at around 2:00 a.m. on reports of a two-vehicle wreck. On arrival, responders found a semi-truck on its side with debris scattered across all traffic lanes. Officials confirmed that Cavanagh died as a result of the collision.

The big rig driver was intubated with severe burn damage. Medics rushed the driver to the burn unit at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center. According to the eyewitnesses, the semi-truck hit another vehicle that was already on its side on the roadway. Traffic was rerouted off the freeway at Main Street and onto a frontage road while crews worked at the scene. No other details are available.

An investigation is underway.
