3 people killed, 3 others hospitalized after a traffic collision in Newport Beach (Newport Beach, CA)

Three people lost their lives and three construction workers were hospitalized after a crash Thursday morning in Newport Beach.

As per the initial information, the traffic collision took place in the 300 block of Pacific Coast Highway at about 12:45 a.m. The early reports showed that the vehicle was heading eastbound in the 300 block of Pacific Coast Highway when it hit a curb and then collided with the construction equipment.

Three passengers in the vehicle died as a result of the wreck. Three construction workers incurred minor non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to a local hospital. PCH was shut down in both eastbound and westbound directions from Superior Avenue to Riverside Avenue while crews worked at the scene. No other details are available.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
