On Sunday evening, three people suffered injuries following a fiery crash near Tempe.

As per the initial information, the hit-and-run accident took place on the U.S. 60 near McClintock Drive. The early reports indicated that a vehicle smashed into the median wall and got engulfed into flames. The other vehicle left the scene after the collision.

Rescuers extricated the driver and two children from the car. The driver was unconscious and all three were transported to the hospital for treatment of their injuries. The incident led to the closure of U.S. 60 westbound lanes as crews worked at the scene.

All westbound traffic was directed onto the Loop 101. As of Sunday night, the westbound lanes were back open, but the on-ramp remained shut down. No other details were provided by the officials.

An investigation is ongoing.
