On Wednesday morning, a two-vehicle accident injured 29-year-old Jessica Posten, a resident of Gainesville, a 4-year-old child, a 12-year-old juvenile and 46-year-old Michael Morgan, a resident of Buckhead, on Athens Highway south of Priest Circle.
According to the investigation till Wednesday afternoon, the 4-year-old child received critical injuries and was airlifted to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. The driver of that vehicle, Jessica Posten was also seriously injured while another 12-year-old juvenile sustained minimal injuries. Paramedics took both of them to the Northeast Georgia Medical Center by Hall County EMS.
Officers said that a tow truck was negotiating a curve on Athens Highway, heading north, at about 7:17 a.m. The driver, Michael Morgan, informed the officers that he looked at his GPS and when he looked back at the road, he was in the oncoming lane. GSP confirmed that he was unable to maintain his lane and that the tow truck crashed into the Posten’s car with its front.
The impact of the collision caused the car to rotate clockwise and it came to a rest facing north in the southbound lane, against the guardrail. The tow truck came to a stop facing north in the southbound lane of Athens Highway.
As per the officials, a piece of debris hit a third vehicle, which was going southbound. No one in that vehicle suffered any injuries. Morgan sustained a minor injury and was provided medical aid at the scene. Morgan was charged with failure to maintain lane, distracted driving, and no seatbelt, authorities stated.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
