Authorities identified 24-year-old Leobardo Estrada, from La Puente, as the man who lost his life following a crash early Saturday morning on the Orange (57) Freeway in San Dimas.
As per the initial information, the fatal motorcycle accident took place at 12:36 a.m. on the northbound freeway at Arrow Highway. The preliminary reports showed that a motorbike ridden by Estrada was heading southbound at an unknown high rate of speed in light traffic conditions.
He reportedly lost control of his motorcycle and swerved to the left, causing the left side of his motorcycle to sideswipe the center divider wall. Due to the impact, Estrada was thrown from his motorcycle and landed in the number one northbound lane. The motorcyclist suffered blunt force trauma to chest and head.
It is unknown if alcohol and/or drugs were involved in the crash. The CHP announced a Sig alert at around 1:05 a.m. closing down the number one northbound lane and reopened the freeway just before 3 a.m. No other details are available.
An investigation is ongoing.
