The Washington State Patrol reported a motor vehicle crash in Kennewick on Tuesday morning. The accident happened at SR 240, Edison Street east at around 3:30 a.m. The collision involved only one vehicle.
An officer attempted to pull over the car driven by 20-year-old Christopher Hernandez of Kennewick because it had switched plates.
When the car accelerated off the road, patrol units immediately stopped trying to pull it over. The car kept going and had lost control.
Hernandez was pronounced dead at the scene.
The fatal crash is being investigated by WSP. It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a role. Additional details regarding the crash are not available currently.
