The California Highway Patrol reported a motor vehicle crash on Wednesday night. The accident happened on the 5 freeway close to Glendale.
The man, who has only been identified as a male in his 40s, was helping a stranded driver when he stopped on the southbound side of the 5 Motorway. He was struck by a Nissan Versa that was passing by as he was attempting to load the car onto his tow truck.
The two truck drivers were declared dead on the spot. Their identities are not yet known.
Both the driver of the disabled vehicle and the woman who was operating the Nissan, identified as Rachel Fewings, remained at the scene and cooperated fully with the police, according to CHP.
There is no indication that the crash was caused by alcohol or drugs. Investigations are ongoing to determine what caused the fatal crash.
