19-year-old Hunter Boccaccio suffered injuries after a suspected DUI driver crashed into him at a Tempe market.
As per the initial information, the single-vehicle accident took place near Rural Road and Apache Boulevard. Police said around 11 p.m. Tuesday, 19-year-old Hunter Boccaccio, an ASU student and another customer were standing in front of the El Paisano Market when David Chidester, who was driving an SUV, drove towards the business where the two were standing.
The early reports showed that Boccaccio pushed the other customer out of the way at which point Chidester’s vehicle trapped him against a wall before slamming into the front of the store. Boccaccio was rushed to the hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries to his lower extremities.
The other customer was not injured. Police mentioned that Chidester displayed signs of impairment and was detained for DUI, aggravated assault, and endangerment. No other details are available.
An investigation is ongoing.
