On Thursday morning, 18-month-old Gael Pacheco, of Baton Rouge, lost her life following a rear-end collision on Interstate 12 while officers arrested 60-year-old Predrag Bisevac of Lisle, Illinois.
As per the initial information, the fatal two-vehicle crash took place at about 8 a.m. on Interstate 12 west of LA Highways 441 in Livingston Parish. The preliminary investigation indicated that Bisevac was heading east on Interstate 12 when he approached stopped traffic. He was unable to stop and rear-ended a 2010 Ford F-150 where Pacheco was the back seat passenger.
Despite being buckled up in a child safety seat, Gael suffered serious injuries. She was rushed to a local hospital where she was later declared dead. The driver and another passenger in the truck with the child were wearing seatbelts and received moderate injuries. They were also taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Bisevac was buckled up at the time of the collision and incurred only minimal injuries. After being medically cleared, officers arrested and booked Bisevac into the Livingston Parish Jail. He was charged with negligent homicide and reckless operation. A toxicology sample was obtained from Bisevac and results are pending. No further details were provided.
The crash remains under review.
