Officials identified 16-year-old Tomas Villaverde as the victim who died following a two-vehicle accident crash Sunday in Phoenix that caused injuries to two other teens and a man.
As per the initial information, the fatal car accident took place at around 9:30 p.m. Sunday near 36th Street and Indian School Road. The preliminary reports showed that a Ford Mustang was speeding east on Indian School Road when it plowed into a Honda Accord that was turning left onto 36th Street.
Due to the impact, two of the three people in the Mustang were ejected from the car. Tomas Villaverde, 16, died as a result of the collision. The 17-year-old driver and a 16-year-old passenger received unspecified injuries. Police believe the Mustang’s speed played a part in the wreck.
The force of the collision sent the Honda into a traffic pole. The driver, a 50-year-old man, received serious injuries, but is expected to recover. According to the officials, the man showed signs of alcohol impairment. It is not known what charges either driver might face. No other details are available.
The incident remains under review.
