On Monday night, a man lost his life after he was hit by three vehicles in El Cajon.
As per the initial information, the fatal auto-pedestrian crash took place on Interstate 8, west of State Route 67 at about 10:30 PM. The preliminary investigation showed that the pedestrian was walking in the traffic lanes of westbound I-8 when he was struck by three vehicles. The victim succumbed to his injuries before being transported to the hospital.
Two of the three drivers who hit the man stayed at the scene and cooperated with the authorities. A 36-year-old woman, the driver of Kia Optima and 28-year-old driver of Dodge Charger struck the pedestrian. One of the three drivers in an unknown vehicle hit the pedestrian, but left the scene, officials reported.
The identity of the deceased will be revealed once the next of kin is notified. Authorities are trying to find out if the pedestrian was under the influence of alcohol or drugs. No other details are immediately available.
An investigation is continuing.
